تحکم (tahakkom)

  1. domineering, highhandedness
    • c. 1180, Khāqānī, “Qaṣīda 8”, in دیوان خاقانی[1]:
مرا از بعد پنجه ساله اسلام
نزیبد چون صلیبی بند بر پا
      روم ناقوس بوسم زین تحکم
      شوم زنار بندم زین تعدا
ma-rā az ba'd-i panjah sāla islām
na-zēbad čūn salībī band bar pā
      rawam nāqūs bōsam z-īn tahakkum
      šawam zunnār band-am z-īn ta'adda
After fifty years of Islam for me,
I do not deserve crucifying chains on my feet.
I shall go kiss the church-bell out of this highhandedness,
I shall become a girdle-wearer out of this oppression.
      (Classical Persian transliteration)
