From Middle Persian tʾcyk' (Tāčīk, Tāzīg, Arab), from Arabic طَيِّء (ṭayyiʔ, name of an Arab clan). Compare Classical Syriac ܛܝܝܐ (Ṭayyāyāʾ, Arab).

Possibly re-borrowed from Old Turkic [script needed] (Täzik, non-Turk/Iranian of Central Asia) after the Mongol Invasion (Orkhon inscription), from Middle Persian tʾcyk' (Tāčīk, Tāzīg, Arab).
