Inherited from Proto-Turkic *boğïm (joint, articulation)[1]; cognate with Azerbaijani buğum, Bashkir быуын (bıwın), Karakhanid [script needed] (boɣïm), Kazakh буын (buyn), Kyrgyz муун (muun), Uyghur بوغۇم (boghum) and Uzbek boʻgʻin.

  1. (in general) knot, node, any knob, lump, swelling, or protuberance that can be found in an object or material
  2. (in general) joint, articulation, the point where two components of a structure join, but are still able to rotate
    Synonym: مفصل (mafsal)
  3. (botany) leaf node, stem node, one of the spots upon a stem where buds and intercalary meristems occur
  4. (botany) internode, an interval or section between two successive nodes possessing the ability to elongate
