Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Persian پنجانگشت (panj-angošt, “chaste tree”, literally “five-finger”), so named because of the leaves ordered in groups of five. So this plant in Ancient Greek πεντάφυλλον (pentáphullon) and in Arabic ذُو خَمْسَة أَصَابِع (ḏū ḵamsa(t) ʔaṣābiʕ).
