[edit]Borrowed from Old Anatolian Turkish, being a compound of ایمان (“faith”) + Old Anatolian Turkish قلی (the possessed form of قل (“slave”)), literally “slave of the faith”; compare Azerbaijani İmanqulu, Chagatai ایمانقلی, Turkish İmankulu.
