Etymology

From Middle Persian ʾyd rʾy (ēd rāy, on account of this, because), the latter a lexicalization of the locative singular of Proto-Iranian *rād-, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HraHdʰ-, from Proto-Indo-European *Hreh₁dʰ- (to think, arrange, accomplish).[1]
