From Middle Persian stwl (/⁠stōr⁠/, horse, mount; large cattle), from Avestan 𐬯𐬙𐬀𐬊𐬭𐬀 (staora, large cattle), from Proto-Iranian *stáwrah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *stáwras (large domestic animal, cattle), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)táwros (wild bull, aurochs).
