Inherited from Proto-Turkic *urkan (rope); cognate with Azerbaijani urğan, Salar urqan, Turkmen urgan and, more distantly, with Bashkir арҡан (arqan), Kazakh арқан (arqan), Kyrgyz аркан (arkan), Southern Altai аркан (arkan), Uyghur ئارقان (arqan), Uzbek arqon.
