[edit]Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (otur-, “to sit”), from Proto-Turkic *oltur- (“to sit”). Cognate with Azerbaijani oturmaq, Bashkir ултырыу (ultırıw), Kazakh отыру (otyru), Kyrgyz отуруу (oturuu), Turkmen oturmak, Uyghur ئولتۇرماق (olturmaq), Uzbek oʻtirmoq and Yakut олор (olor).

- (intransitive) to sit, to be in a resting position in which the upper body is upright and supported by the buttocks

- (intransitive) to live, dwell, reside, lodge, to settle or have a residence permanently or for a considerable time
- Synonym: اقامت ایتمك (ikâmet etmek)
