Etymology

From Middle Persian [script needed] (hanǰāftan, to finish, complete, carry out), from Old Persian [script needed] (*hanǰāma-, end, conclusion), from Proto-Iranian *ham-+*gam (to come), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *gʷem- (to go, stand). Akin to Northern Kurdish hingaftin (to hit (target), to bring together), Central Kurdish هەنگاوتن (hengawtin).
