[edit]Possibly from Bactrian Αφϸιιανο (Afšiiano), related to Middle Persian [script needed] (Pišīn) or its cognate in another Middle Iranian language, especially Sogdian, of unknown ultimate origin. Akin to Avestan 𐬞𐬌𐬯𐬌𐬥𐬀𐬵- (pisinah-) and Old Armenian Ափշին (Apʻšin) and Օշին (Ōšin) (earlier Աւշին (Awšin)).
