  1. to ask or call for help [with accusative or بِ (bi) ‘someone’, along with عَلَى (ʕalā) ‘against someone/something’]
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 1:5:
      إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ
      ʔiyyāka naʕbudu waʔiyyāka nastaʕīnu
      You (alone) we worship, and You (alone) we ask for help.
  2. to make use of, to resort to [with accusative or بِ (bi) ‘something’, along with عَلَى (ʕalā) ‘for some purpose’]
