Arabic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown, suggested as Iranian, comparing with Classical Persian اورنگ (awrang, “throne”), but this is difficult. A native origin would connect the Arabic only to أَرَاك (ʔarāk, “toothbrush tree”), or perhaps an obsolete أَرَكَ (ʔaraka, “to persevere, to bide”), because it is a place of abode, which however likely derives from the plant name, as these trees are inviting for camels, goats, and humans to eat.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]أَرِيكَة • (ʔarīka) f (plural أَرَائِكُ (ʔarāʔiku) or أَرِيك (ʔarīk))
