Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ātïm (step); cognate with Azerbaijani addım, Bashkir аҙым (aźım), Chuvash утӑм (ut̬ăm), Kazakh адым (adym), Kyrgyz адым (adım), Southern Altai адым (adïm), Turkmen ädim and Uzbek odim.
