  1. A marking used in Qur'anic scripture to indicate that while a pause can be made at the point it appears in the text, it is recommended that one recite the scripture without a pause. Semantically, it is more or less equivalent to the Qur'anic symbol used in the Arab world, . This character is also comparable to small high ط (which is used in Iran as roughly equivalent to ).
