Ultimately from Elamite 𒀸𒋗𒊺𒂗 (šušen). Compare Old Persian 𐏂𐎢𐏁𐎠 (ç-u-š-a /⁠çūšā⁠/) and Ancient Greek Σοῦσα (Soûsa).
