[edit]From Proto-Semitic *ṯaʕlab- (“fox”). Cognate with Akkadian 𒈜𒀀 (šēlebum) and Arabic ثَعْلَب (ṯaʕlab). Compare also Yemeni Arabic ثَعَلْ.
