Borrowed from Aramaic ܫܒܱܛܒܳܛܳܐ (šəḇaṭbāṭā), doublet of native forms שְׁבַצְבָּץ (shvatzbatz), שְׁבַצְבּוּץ (shvatzbutz), and בִּצְבוּץ (bitzbutz), ultimately a derivation of Proto-Semitic *būṣ- (“reed”).
