קאַיוט
Appearance
Yiddish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle Low German kajüte, possibly from Middle Dutch kayhute. De-umlauting possibly due to influence from Polish kajuta and Russian каю́та (kajúta). Loss of final -e is consistent with other nouns inherited from early New High German such as האָז (hoz). Compare German Kajüte.
