Etymology

Root
פ־שׁ־ת (p-sh-t)
2 terms

Derived from פֵּשֶׁת (péshet, flax, linen) +‎ ־ָה (), where the suffix may have been used to derive a singulative noun, compare Arabic ة (-ah) and the formation of words such as נְמָלָה (n'malá, ant) with their Arabic counterparts نَمْلَة (namla, ant) and نَمْل (naml, ants). The first element is cognate with Ugaritic 𐎔𐎘𐎚 (pṯt, linen).
