[edit]From Middle High German vriuntlich, vrūntlich, friuntlich (compare German freundlich), from Old High German friuntlīh, from Proto-Germanic *frijōndlīkaz (compare English friendly), equivalent to פֿרײַנד (fraynd, “friend”) + ־לעך (-lekh).
