[edit]From French spécialiste via contact languages such as German Spezialist, Polish specjalista, Russian специали́ст (specialíst) and Ukrainian спеціалі́ст (specialíst), although it is more likely to be from a Slavic language due to the initial S not being pronounced /ʃ/.
