Etymology
[edit]Sometimes connected to מרד (“to rebel”), but van der Toorn et al. instead prefer a derivation from the name of a "major Mesopotamian deity", that being Ninurta, from Sumerian 𒀭𒊩𒌆𒅁.[1]
