Formed in Modern Hebrew as a compound of מִי (mi, who) +‎ שֶׁ־ (she-, that, which) +‎ הוּא (hu, he, it) by analogy with Mishnaic מַשֶּׁהוּ (máshehu, something). By surface analysis, מִי +‎ ־שֶׁהוּ.
