[edit]From לֵיל (leil, “night or evening of”) + כָּל (kol, “all of”) + ה־ (ha-, “the”) + קְּדוֹשִׁים (k'doshim, “saints”), calque of English Halloween, itself a shortening of All-Hallow-even, All Hallows’ Eve (the name of the evening before All Saints Day).
