Etymology

כ־ל־ל (k-l-l)

Coined by the Academy of the Hebrew Language in 1912, from Aramaic כַּלָּנִיתָא (kallānīṯā, type of reed), based on Classical Syriac ܟܠܘܢܝܬܐ (kallōnīṯā, anemone), both diminutives of כַּלְּתָא (kalləṯā, bride). Can be synchronically analyzed as כַּלָּה (kalá, bride) +‎ ־נִית (-nít).
