[edit]From Russian жира́ф (žiráf), from French girafe, from Arabic زَرَافَة (zarāfa, “giraffe”), from Classical Syriac ܙܪܝܦܐ (zārīp̄ā), variant of ܙܪܢܦܐ (zarnāp̄ā), from Classical Persian زرناپا (zornâpâ), a compound of زرنا (zornâ, “flute”) and پا (pâ, “leg”).
