[edit]- זונטאָג (zuntog)
Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German sunne(n)tac, sun(n)tac, from Old High German sunnūntag, from late Proto-West Germanic *sunnōn dag (“day of the sun”), a calque of Latin diēs Sōlis. Equivalent to זון (zun) + טאָג (tog), whence the alternate form. For the reduction of ־טאָג (-tog) in compounds to ־טיק (-tik), compare ווייטיק (veytik). Cognate to German Sonntag, Dutch zondag, English Sunday, and so on.
