- Third-person masculine singular vav-consecutive imperfect (hence past tense) of הָיָה (hayá).
- Tanach, Genesis 1:3, with translation of the King James Version:
- וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים יְהִי אוֹר וַיְהִי אוֹר
- vayómer elohím y'hí ór vayhí ór
- And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
