Etymology

This term is usually considered to derive from the root ה־ר־ה (h-r-) and to refer to "conception" or "pregnancy". Some scholars, however, propose derivation from a different root (such as ה־ר־ר (h-r-r)) and/or interpret the word as meaning "groaning" or "trembling".
