הִקְטִיר (hiqtír) (hif'il construction)

  1. (transitive) to offer up (incense or burnt offerings), to turn into smoke
    • Tanach, Exodus 30:7, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:
      וְהִקְטִיר עָלָיו אַהֲרֹן קְטֹרֶת סַמִּים בַּבֹּקֶר בַּבֹּקֶר בְּהֵיטִיבוֹ אֶת־הַנֵּרֹת יַקְטִירֶנָּה׃
      v-hiqtír 'aláv Aharón q'tóret sammím ba-bóqer ba-bóqer b-heitivó et ha-nerót yaqtirénna.
      And Aaron shall burn thereon incense of sweet spices; every morning, when he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn it.
    • Tanach, Leviticus 16:25, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:
      וְאֵת חֵלֶב הַחַטָּאת יַקְטִיר הַמִּזְבֵּחָה׃
      v-et ḥélev ha-ḥatát yaqtír ha-mizbéḥa.
      And the fat of the sin-offering shall he make smoke upon the altar.
