Etymology

Cognate with Arabic دكان (dukkān, dais, platform; shop, store)—and ultimately Hindi/Urdu दुकान (dukān, store, shop), by way of Classical Persian دکان (dokân, shop, store)—as well as Aramaic דּוּךְ (dukh, a flat place). From the root ד־ו־ך (d-w-k), meaning "pounded flat".[1]
