      וַיַּצִּבוּ לָהֶם מַצֵּבוֹת וַאֲשֵׁרִים עַל כׇּל־גִּבְעָה גְבֹהָה וְתַחַת כׇּל־עֵץ רַעֲנָן׃
      va-yatsívu lahém matsevót va-asherím 'al kol giv'á gvohá v-táḥat kol 'ets ra'anán
      And they set them up pillars and Asherim upon every high hill and under every leafy tree.
    • a. 425 C.E., Jerusalem Talmud, Avodah Zarah 3:5:
      מְלַמֵּד שֶׁלֹֹֹּא הִנִּיחוּ הַכְּנַעֲנִים לֹא הַר וְלֹא גִבְעָה שֶׁלֹּא עָבְדוּ עָלָיו.
      M'lamméd she-lo hiníḥu ha-kna'anim lo har v-lo giv'á she-lo 'avdú 'aláv.
      This teaches that the Canaanites didn't leave any mountain or any hill upon which they did not worship.
