[edit]From the Mishnah, Seder Nezikin, Pirkei Avot Chapter 2:5. Literally “In a place where there are no men, try to be a man.” That is, where there are no good or worthy people a person should strive to be one.
Proverb
[edit]בְּמָקוֹם שֶׁאֵין אֲנָשִׁים, הִשְׁתַּדֵּל לִהְיוֹת אִישׁ. • (b'makóm she'én anashím, hishtadél lihyót ísh)
- A person should strive to be good in a place where others are not.
