Thought to be borrowed from an unattested Avestan *𐬀𐬉𐬴𐬨𐬀𐬛𐬀𐬉𐬎𐬎𐬀 (*aēṣ̌madaēuua); from a compound of 𐬀𐬉𐬱𐬆𐬨𐬀 (aēšəma, wrath) +‎ 𐬛𐬀𐬉𐬎𐬎𐬀 (daēuua, demon).
