[edit]From Middle High German immer (also iemer, imer), from Old High German iomēr (“always”). From io (“always”) + mēr (“more”). Compare German immer. Cognate with Dutch immer, German Low German ümmer, jümmer, jümmers, Middle English a mare, aa mare (“evermore”).
