[edit]From אויפֿוואַרטן (oyfvartn, “to wait; to help; to serve”) + ־ער (-er), with the former deriving from אויפֿ־ (oyf-) + וואַרטן (vartn). Compare German aufwarten, Aufwӓrter (“servant”).
