Etymology

From unattested Ancient Greek *φωσουρά (*phōsourá, firefly, literally light-tailed), composed of φώς (phṓs, light) + οὐρά (ourá, tail). Compare the Armenian name of the insect: լուսատտիկ (lusattik), կայծոռիկ (kaycoṙik).
