[edit]Etymology
[edit]The original spelling is տաւսախ (tawsax). Possibly from Akkadian 𒄑𒌆 (GIŠTAŠKARIN /taskarinnu/, “box tree”) via the mediation of Hurro-Urartian;[1] compare Hurrian [Term?] (/taskar-/, “box tree”). The Old Armenian derivate may contain the putative plant-suffix *-ախ (*-ax), possibly of Hurro-Urartian origin.[2] Note also Biblical Hebrew תְּאַשּׁוּר (təʾaššūr, “box tree”).
