[edit]An Iranian borrowing; compare Parthian 𐫇𐫉𐫡𐫃 (wzrg), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (wc(w)lg /wuzurg/), Old Persian 𐎺𐏀𐎼𐎣 (v-z-r-k /vazạrka/, “big, great”). Ultimately, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *wáȷ́ras.
