[edit]From Middle Armenian ռամալ (ṙamal), ըռամալ (əṙamal), from Persian رمال (rammâl, “geomancer, soothsayer, prophet, conjurer, fortune-teller”), from Arabic رَمَّال (rammāl, “geomancer”), from رَمْل (raml, “sand”).
