Etymology

An Iranian borrowing: compare Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾwštlgʾwplng /⁠uštar-gāw-palang⁠/), Persian شترگاوپلنگ (šotorgâvpalang, giraffe).

Attested only in Ašxarhacʿoycʿ as շտրպաշանք pl (štrpašankʻ), which is a scribal error for շտրպաղանգք pl (štrpałangkʻ).
