Old Armenian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From *մոզ (*moz, great, much, mighty, increased), of unknown origin, +‎ -ան- (-an-). Jahukyan proposes an Iranian derivation: compare Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬰- (maz-, large, great), Sogdian [script needed] (mzʾγ-), Northern Kurdish mezin.

Verb

[edit]

մոզանամ (mozanam)

  1. (transitive) to become large or mighty, to increase

Usage notes

[edit]

The evidence is scarce, and there are reading variants մողացեալ (mołacʻeal) and մոռացեալ (moṙacʻeal). The word should be regarded as uncertain.
