Etymology

A reduplication of Old Armenian *մուղ- (*muł-, “grinding, crushing”) or *մող- (*moł-) or another descendant of Proto-Indo-European *melh₂- (“to grind”) related to *մուլ- (*mul-, “grinding, crushing”). For the semantics compare Russian моль (molʹ) : молоть (molotʹ), Old Norse mǫlr (“moth”) : mala (“to grind”).
