[edit]The origin is unknown.[1] J̌ahukyan remarks, that relation with Proto-Indo-European *kred- (“beams”) is unlikely, whence Gothic 𐌷𐍂𐍉𐍄 (hrōt, “roof”), Old Norse hrót (“roof”).[2]
