[edit]From թուզ (tʻuz, “fig”) + ուտել (utel, “to eat”) + -ուկ (-uk).

- 13–14th centuries, Kirakos Episkopos, Govkʻ Tʻṙčʻnocʻ [Praise of Birds] A version found only as a quotation in the unpublished Armenian–Latin dictionary of Stefanus Roszka completed 1731:[1]
- Թըզկերուկ հաւ մի կայ,
Որ միշտ թըզով նա գիրանայ- Tʻəzkeruk haw mi kay,
Or mišt tʻəzov na giranay - There is the bird tʻəzkeruk,
That grows fat on figs
- Tʻəzkeruk haw mi kay,

Usage notes
[edit]The species is unknown. Has been glossed with Ottoman Turkish انجیر قوشی (incir kuşu),[2] Italian beccafico,[3] English figpecker,[4] French becfigue,[5][6] German Feigendrossel,[7] based solely on the fig-eating. Typologically compare also Georgian მოლაღური (molaɣuri).
