Etymology

An Iranian borrowing. Compare Manichaean Parthian dʾdbr (dādβar, judge), Middle Persian dʾtwbl (dādwar, judge), Persian داور (dâvar, judge). For the etymon of these see դատ (dat). Reshaped under the influence of the Armenian suffix -ւոր (-wor).
