Old Armenian

Etymology

The origin is uncertain. Has been connected with բոց (bocʻ) and Latin focus. Ačaṙyan derives the word from the Biblical place-name Բոսոր (Bosor, “Bozrah”); compare Isaiah 63:1 Իսկ այս ո՞վ է որ դիմեալ գայ յԵդովմայ․ կարմրութիւն ձորձոց իւրոց ի Բոսորայ։ (Isk ays o^?v ē or dimeal gay yEdovmay; karmrutʻiwn jorjocʻ iwrocʻ i Bosoray., “Who is this who comes from Edom, from the city of Bozrah, with his clothing stained red?”).
