առատիկ
Appearance
Old Armenian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Probably from the preposition առ (aṙ, “by, at, near”) + տիկ (tik, “wineskin”).
Noun
[edit]առատիկ • (aṙatik)
- a cord for binding up a criminal’s feet
Usage notes
[edit]The word is attested only in oblique cases առատկաց (aṙatkacʻ) and առատկաւք (aṙatkawkʻ), so the nominative can be reconstructed as *առատիկ (*aṙatik) or *առատուկ (*aṙatuk). The modern literary Armenian has chosen the latter but the etymology points to the former.
