[edit]An Arabic name from سَوَاد (sawād, “blackness, black”). Borne by Sawada ibn Abd al-Hamid al-Jahhafi, an Arab governor of Armenia, and by a Persian prince who married an Armenian Bagratuni princess, both from the 9th century. Among Armenians used in the 10–14th centuries.
